May 2024 Newsletter

We are buzzing with excitement at The Plant!

Bike a Bee, a pioneering urban beekeeping initiative and a cherished tenant, has been honored with a Good Food Award! Recognized nationally, the Good Food Awards commend exceptional American food producers who excel in quality, champion sustainability, and embody social responsibility.

Bike a Bee’s founder, Jana Kinsman, started this project to foster a deeper connection between urban environments and nature. By situating hives in accessible, community-centered locations like schools, urban farms, and community gardens, Bike a Bee enhances local green spaces while simultaneously educating Chicagoans about the critical role bees play in our ecosystem. Children and adults alike learn from these tiny pollinators, gaining insights into biodiversity and sustainability through direct engagement.

Visit the Turtle Stop next time you are at The Plant to sample some of Jana's award-winning honey, and celebrate this remarkable achievement firsthand!
