Aug. 2024 Newsletter

With over 1,400 session proposals submitted to South by Southwest 2025, we need your help propelling our innovative approach to waste management onto their big stage.

SXSW is a massive annual festival and conference held in Austin, Texas, that celebrates the convergence of technology, film, science, and music. It's known for showcasing cutting-edge innovations, inspiring keynotes, and fostering networking opportunities across different industries. This year we've submitted a proposal, "Extracting High-Value Molecules from the Waste Stream," to showcase our groundbreaking work with Back of the Yards Algae Sciences. In this proposal, we explore the potential of using an anaerobic digester as a biorefinery, unlocking valuable molecules—including secondary metabolites—from the waste stream. This unconventional approach empowers our small business community at The Plant to revolutionize societal views on waste, showcasing real-world examples of converting waste challenges into sustainable opportunities.

Help us spread the word! Voting closes Sun. Aug. 18, and community votes heavily influence SXSW's programming. To vote, visit panelpicker.sxsw.com/vote, sign in or create a PanelPicker account, and search for our topic title. For more information about our proposed session, click here.
